Assessment Process & Key Dates

When to apply

Vacation scheme placements are available to penultimate and final year degree students who are on course for at least a 2.1 (or equivalent) and are looking to secure a training contract with us two years in advance. Your pre-university studies should also reflect this high standard of achievement. You should be fluent in English as well as Cantonese and/or Mandarin, with the ability to read and write Chinese.

We offer vacation schemes twice each year:

Winter vacation scheme

The application for our 2017 winter vacation scheme is open from 01 July 2016 to 30 September 2016.

For successful candidates, the dates for our schemes in 2016 are as follows:

  • Monday 09 January until Friday 27 January 2017
  • Monday 06 February until Friday 24 February 2017

Please note that we recruit on a rolling basis so try to apply early to avoid disappointment.

Summer vacation scheme

We accept 2017 summer vacation schemes application from 01 November 2016 to and the deadline is 31 January 2017.

The dates of these schemes are:

  • Monday 05 June until Friday 23 June 2017
  • Monday 03 July until Friday 21 July 2017

Whilst we prefer to hold interviews in person in our offices, we appreciate that many candidates may not be available or are based overseas. We will therefore interview candidates by telephone in certain cases, or at one of our other offices if this is more practical.

If you are successfully invited to attend an interview, there will be a two hour assessment which comprises of the following: 

  • Main interview with a member of the Human Resources team and an Associate/Managing Associate
  • Mandarin assessment with one of our trainee solicitors (if applicable)
  • English written exercise
  • English to Chinese translation exercise (if applicable)

Following a first round interview you will be invited to attend a short interview with one of our Graduate Recruitment Partners.
