Route to Qualification
Our structured programme of training and practical experience provides all kinds of opportunities for you to develop your skills and expertise, from the very moment you join us.
Training and qualification
Candidates who have completed a law degree are encouraged to apply to Simmons & Simmons for a position as a 'praticante' (trainee lawyer). We also welcome applications from candidates with a background in economics that are interested in working in our tax practice.
Praticanti are required to complete or have completed at least two years of training under the guidance of a qualified lawyer. From day one you will be a key member of our team. We will ensure your smooth transition into your new role, while giving you a practical introduction to the basic skills needed at this stage in your career. In order to qualify as an 'avvocato' you will need to sit a state written exam at the end of your training period. Subject to passing the written exam you will also be required to sit a state oral exam.
We aim to ensure that your legal and overall professional skills grow each day. As your legal knowledge increases, we will support you with legal and business skills training in everything from new developments in law and practice to strategic thinking and business development.
Client secondments and international experience
Throughout your career with us, there are opportunities to gain even greater experience through a client secondment. There is also the chance to gain international exposure by going on secondment to one of our other offices.
Working internationally can offer invaluable career and personal benefits – and, even if you do not spend time in another office, you will have the opportunity to work on transactions and cases that have an international focus.
